オーストラリアのほぼ中央に位置し、世界で二番目に大きな一枚岩であるウルルにて発見した。ウルルを形成する砂岩は鉄分を多く含んでおり、外観は鉄分が酸化した赤色を呈している。ウルルは岩盤が長期的に削剥され形づくられたもので、表面には地層が表れ、地表からほぼ垂直に無数の縦じまを形成している。
The discovery was made at Uluru, the second largest monolith in the world, located almost in the center of Australia. The sandstone that forms Uluru is rich in iron, giving it an iron-oxidized red appearance. Uluru was formed by long-term ablation of the bedrock, and its surface is covered with strata, forming numerous vertical striations almost perpendicular to the surface of the earth.
